arkan is both a rope(used in old times for tieing up young men to take them to army) and a song(mostly performed by young recruits before going in the army - as a farewell dance).

Well, this topic is old as time itself, but I was cuious about something. I heard from a Ukrainian Canadian radio program that Arkan is a woodcutter's dance. I think that certainly would be cooler than some dumb ole military dance.

I wonder if there's anyone around who knows anything about that?

Hello
word Arkan mean
Arkan (Ukrainian: Aπκΰν, Aπ΄ΰν ) is a popular dance of the Ukrainian Hutsul people (from Hutsulshchyna, southwestern Ukraine). It is performed by amateurs, professional Ukrainian dance ensembles, as well as other performers of folk dances.

The Arkan is traditionally performed around a burning bonfire by the men. The word Arkan also refers to the step that the men perform while dancing around the fire. The step begins with the right foot stepping to the side (or double stamping as the dance builds momentum), the left foot crosses behind, the right foot steps to the side again, and the left foot is hopped in front of the dancer with a bent knee. The dance is performed with the men's arms upon one another's shoulders. In professional Ukrainian dances, however, many variations may accompany this root step.

There is also a Romanian dance called Arcan.

I could not find it

I hope I have helped with information

I like when they dance in a human tower, with part of the dancers standing on the other ones' shoulders.

Indeed, thanks a lot for these perfect videos! I remember one video on Youtube with someone playing Arkan sounds to cimbalom, I had it in my favourites but I can't find it anymore, maybe it was deleted.
